How masks and panels actually differ
A panel is a flat array of LEDs you sit or stand in front of. A mask is a contoured shell that rests directly on your face. Because a mask's LEDs touch the skin at effectively zero distance, even a modest power output delivers a meaningful facial dose in a few minutes. These effects depend on wavelength and dose, not on the device's shape — a mask and a panel delivering comparable dose to the skin can both be effective.
